Museum of the 20th Century II, Berlin, DE
2016 Realization Competition
In collaboration with Weyell Zipse Architekten and James Melson Landschaftsarchitekt
Central idea underlying this project is the organization of the museum as a city. The given heterogeneity of the program, as well as the multi-layered and changeable character as museum of the 20th century is reflected in its architecture. The diverse museum programs are distributed into ten building volumes, which are arranged around a central, double-height auditorium. In between these ‘houses’ a fluid space is created, that can be read as the continuation of the public space of the adjoining Kulturforum. Similar to an urban square this new centre of the Kulturforum will become a new place for encounter and exchange.
