A residential house for a married couple, surrounded by tall trees, located on the coast of the city of Stralsund on the Baltic Sea. Three tall rooms form the backbone of the house and structure the building. Contrary to a modernist understanding of different functions with specific room sizes, the three main rooms are similar in dimension and hierarchy, and face west, south, and east. Between the main rooms are the bedrooms, bathrooms, and other living areas. A hidden spiral staircase leads to the high tower room, which offers a view of the sea and access to the roof terrace. The house is built of brick—a locally sourced material that, combined with the building's unusual shape, evokes ambiguous perceptions. The oversized openings reinforce this ambiguity and convey an impression that is both unfamiliar and yet familiar at the same time.
